For Valentine’s Day, I would like to honor the essential loves of my life – Chimney, Moon, and Butter.
Yes, these are my cats. I love them more than anything or anyone in this world (apologies to those close to me).
After Petunia, my beloved French Bulldog, died in 2022 I thought I would never love again. Wrong. I thought it would take me years to get a new pet. Wrong. I still miss Petunia. If you read my book you know she was a complicated diva with costly medical issues. Nonetheless, she was perfect! The same vet who helped me shepherd Petunia into the next realm also brought my cats into my life. Three little siblings had been born to a feral street cat and were living at the spay/neuter clinic where she worked. I met them when they were only four weeks old and I was like “mmmm, yeah I gotta have these.” Growing up, my family was a “cat family,” so returning to my feline roots made sense. I brought them home a couple months after Petunia died. I am their mom and I tell them every day that they are my biological children.
As a Valentine’s Day ode, let us revisit a blessed day in their history – when my dear friend Yilin hand-knitted them little hats. The hats were met with varying degrees of enthusiasm. Let’s take a look…
Moon, the emotional one, got a hat with bunny ears. She was not so psyched, but she looked so cute.
